Posted November 04, 2020 07:05:17The Australian Government has announced it will be taking a month-long hiatus from its IT business as part of an audit of the IT sector.

The IT sector is one and a half times the size of the Australian economy and accounts for more than half of its employment.
The Government has confirmed that more than 100 businesses, including mining and energy companies, will be shut down from November 9, 2020 to February 14, 2021.
It is a precautionary measure due to concerns that the sector could be vulnerable to cyber-attacks.
The Prime Minister said the Government will not have access to the data that has been stolen in such a hack.
« We’re taking a look at it and making sure we’re going to have it in our system, » he said.
« It’s a precaution and it’s not the end of the world. »
Mr Turnbull said he did not want to see the industry go dark, and that he would be seeking a new partner for the project, to be announced later.
« There will be a partnership of some kind, » he told reporters.
« That’s the nature of the business we’re in, and we’re happy to have a partner to work with. »
But some of the businesses in the sector said they were concerned about the Government’s decision.
« I have an idea, how can we get this business back on track? » said David Leopold, a business manager for the IT services industry at the Australian National University.
« If we get it back on the road, it will not be the same as before. »
But Mr Leopolds fears the Government is not being serious about protecting the IT industry from hackers.
« The Government is still looking at the industry as if it’s a business, » he added.
« They’re still trying to find a way to make the IT business more efficient. »
This will be done to protect the system and ensure it’s secure.
« The Prime Minster said the decision was necessary to protect sensitive data, and ensure IT was secure. »
Cyber security and the integrity and integrity of our infrastructure is our number one priority and we will ensure that our businesses operate on the highest possible standard, » he wrote on the Government website. »
